Family Visit and Last Finish of 2009 (Well, Almost)

Happy New Year!! I hope that 2010 brings all of you much love and happiness.

The day after Christmas my family and I flew to Houston, TX to visit my sister and her family. V moved to Texas a little more than five years ago and this is the first time that we have been able to go down there. It was good to see her. They were here in New York visiting my BIL's family over the summer and we decided to go down there for a visit a short time later. This is us in front of their Christmas tree:

While I was away I almost got Home Of A Needleworker done. I actually got alot of stitching done on the airplane going down to Houston and coming back to New York. I think that it's going to be finished as a wall hanging and hung in the living room.

A Book, Some Ornaments, and a Giveaway!

This is my 100th post! To celebrate, I have decided to have a giveaway, but there will be more on that later. I just finished a GREAT book. I have a neighbor who loves to read like I do, and we have very similar tastes in books. She lent me "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett. It takes place in 12th century England. In the beginning introduces several groups of characters and as the book goes on, you see how all of these characters and their lives intertwine with each other. It was slow in the beginning, but as I got more into it, it was one of those books that I had a really hard time putting down. The neighbor who lent it to me told me that there is a sequel to it! She is reading that right now, and promised that I could borrow it when she is done with it. Hurray! A new book to read! I have not gotten a great deal of stitching done this week. First Finish Of The Year

I finished Home Of A Needleworker the other day and since I knew that I was going to finish it as a wall hanging I had to make a trip to Joanne Fabrics in the hope of finding something that I thought would work. I don't know about you, but sometimes I got to look for fabric for a certain project, and I have something in my mind, but I can never seem to find what I see in my mind's eye. I end up roaming around the store, endlessly looking for something that apparently does not exist. For this one, though, I really didn't have any idea what kind of fabric that I wanted. The color green kept leaping to mind, but I was not really sure about it. So, I took the finished stitched piece with me so I could hold it up against any fabric that I thought might catch my eye. I was in the store all of five minutes when I came across this brown and blue fabric and I just could not believe my eyes! It was perfect!! Welcome To My Blog!

Welcome to My Stitchalong! As you may guess from the title, I am a stitcher. Cross stitching mostly, but I also do a little quilting and some crocheting. I was encouraged to start this blog by my cousin's wife (a big shout out to Sarah!!) so here I am. I'm a stay at home wife and mom to one husband and two active boys. Running after two boys during the day and taking them both here and there leaves me wanting something for myself, so my stitching comes in quite handy. I've turned my stitching into lots of things: pillows, wall hangings, quilts. This is my journey through my life as a wife, mom, and stitcher. This is a project that I finished over the summer. As soon as I saw it I knew exactly what I wanted to make it into: a wall hanging for my master bedroom. It's one of my favorite finishes that I've done.
