A Quiet Afternoon...Sort Of


For those of us in the northern hemisphere, it's summer, which means the kids are out of school for their summer break.  Heaven knows I love my boys, but the summer vacations really take their toll on my nerves for a variety of reasons.  This summer is no exception since it's the first summer that I've worked in many years.  M has taken on the responsibility of cooking dinner for the family while I'm gone, so that has taken some concerns away from me, and he's gotten quite good at it.  We started with simple dinners, like pasta and tacos.  This morning I taught him how to make sausage and spinach bread, a recipe that my father used to make for our family when I was a child.  It's a favorite of my kids, and he was really surprised to see how easy it is to make.

Yesterday the kids gave me some quiet time.  M was tired and went to lay down, and Z was watching a movie .  What was a stitching mom to do??  Set myself up with my stitching and stream something good on my iPad!



Please tell me I'm not the only one who loves the watch movies and television shows on their tablets. It's close and I don't need my glasses to see it, like I do when I watch television or go to a movie.  We subscribed to Amazon Prime, which opened up a whole new world of streaming for me.  So many movies!!

Does that set up not look inviting?  I bought that lap desk out of The Stitchery catalogue a couple of months ago.  My iPad fits right in to the holder so I can set it up on the arm of the chair and it sits there without fear of it falling.  It was really easy to stitch and watch "Poldark" while sitting in my recliner.  And in the hour and a half of quiet time that I got I managed a finish:


This leaves three squares left to stitch in this series, including the one that I have to start over.  I received the replacement fabric and more floss in the mail this week, so I'm good to go.  I can see the finish line!!  

After this series is finished I can move on the early American series that LHN started a few months ago.  I haven't started that yet because I wanted to get the ABC series done first.

Congratulations on your RST block finish! Will you share the recipe for the spinach and sausage bread? It sounds good. Nice little stitching set-up you have there! I bet it makes for some enjoyable stitching time.

This is my 100th post! To celebrate, I have decided to have a giveaway, but there will be more on that later. I just finished a GREAT book. I have a neighbor who loves to read like I do, and we have very similar tastes in books. She lent me "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett. It takes place in 12th century England. In the beginning introduces several groups of characters and as the book goes on, you see how all of these characters and their lives intertwine with each other. It was slow in the beginning, but as I got more into it, it was one of those books that I had a really hard time putting down. The neighbor who lent it to me told me that there is a sequel to it! She is reading that right now, and promised that I could borrow it when she is done with it. Hurray! A new book to read! I have not gotten a great deal of stitching done this week. A Quiet Sunday

Yesterday we had the joy of going to watch our niece swim in a meet at a local university.  We were up and out early, and with a quick stop at Starbucks to fuel our morning, we were off!  It was great to watch her compete and spend the day with her family.  I worked last night, which is a rare thing for me on a Saturday night, so it was a long day.  Today we're keeping it quiet.  Z has homework to finish, MJ is streaming something on Netflix, and after baking, doing laundry, and vacuuming the house, I am stitching.  My usual stitching spot gets cold and drafty in the winter at times, so I bought myself a birthday present: a new Ott Light, and I created a second stitching space for myself. And The Cake Was...

I guess I'm really predictable because someone guessed that my birthday cake was a panda. Hmmm! How did you ever figure that out?? This must be a guy thing because my husband, my oldest son, and my friend's husband all asked me the same thing: are you going to cut the head off first? That poor bear. But he was really tasty! Me, next to the cake: This is my uncle (my later dad's brother) and I was really happy that he, his wife, Debbie, and my Aunt Rosalie (who I did not get a picture of!) were there for the party. They live about 4 hours away, so it was a hike for them to get here, but they came to see me and I was thrilled! This weekend Lazy Daisy is having a Superbowl Sale on Saturday and I was supposed to get together with three of my friends and go shopping there.
