My Stitchalong

Since my last post I have worked steadily on Welcome to Hogwarts, so I guess you can say I'm back on track with my Year of the WIP.  I love the way the castle looks so far! Progress has been steady, and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of it take shape. Can I just say that Etsy has been my downfall lately?  I bought the Harry Potter designs from a shop on there, and a stitching friend introduced me to another shop.  Somehow three new designs are sitting in my inbox.  I think I've reached SABLE: Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy. I have to work tonight, so I'm off to get a few stitches in before I go.  Have a good week, everyone!

I was working diligently on Barbershop Quartet, and made some good progress. Then I hit a bump in the road of my year of working on previously started projects.  Sigh.  I did try, but a friend of mine posted these awesome Harry Potter designs, and before I knew what was happening I was shopping on Etsy, there were four charts in my cart, and I was on the floor sorting through my stash collection for fabric and floss.   Welcome to Hogwarts is the first one up. As you can see, I got a little bored with stitching the blue sky, so I counted down and started the castle. There are also designs for the Hogwarts Express, Hogsmeade, and one that says "Always", and the A is the symbol of the Deathly Hallows.  For a Harry Potter fan, these are very cool!! A quiet week ahead of me is planned, and I'm looking forward to some stitching time.

2018 has gotten off to a good start.  As the title of my post suggests, this is starting out as the Year of the WIP.  While I have heard new projects calling my name I have resisted the temptation to start something new, and have decided instead to work on my growing pile of works on progress.  By doing this I've finished two projects since the begining of the new year.  My last post showed off Mickey Salutes America (more on that later), and today I'm excited to show off Tranquil Moments by Needlemania! It is stitched on a 28 count evenweave with colors called Perfect Piecrust and Morning Glory, both by Crescent Colors.  This project was started years ago when my family and I were visiting my sister in Texas.  I'll always remember that this was the project I was working on when I taught my niece to stitch while we were on that trip. It's been a while since I've had a finish, but here it is! Mickey Salutes America was a kit created by Stoney Creek and was sold at the Disney parks.  There is a frame style at Michael's that I think will be perfect for this.  Time to visit the frame shop!

As this is my first post since Christmas I must start off with Happy New Year!!!  I wish all of you a blessed, happy and healthy 2018!! I am not the kind of person who makes New Year's resolutions.  It's never been a habit I got in to, and I was never very good at keeping them, anyway.  What I have decided is that this year I would like to put in a few stitches every day.  Stress and anxiety sometimes get in the way, but I think this year I'm really going to try to push through. Putting in some stitches every day has helped me make good progress on Mickey and Minnie out in their sleigh. Considering that I only started working on it right after Thanksgiving I think I've made good progress on it!  Depending on how you look at it I'm either late for last Christmas, or I'm getting a head start for this year.  Either way, it's getting close to a finish. It's the day after Christmas, and while my kids are quiet I thought I would update my blog.  It was a quiet day here, with just MJ's parents coming for dinner.  I don't do alot of fuss when I set the table, but my Christmas table runner always looks so pretty.  It was a large project, but was well worth the time and effort. This is the first year in a long time that I made no new stitched Christmas ornaments.  Over the years, between the ones I've made and the ones I've received as gifts or in exchanges, I've amassed quite a collection.  In addition to the Christmas tree in the living room I put up a second tree in our den where I hang my stitched ornaments.  I'm beginning to think I need a bigger tree! Christmas stitching continues on Mickey and Minnie.  Now that they have eyes, ears, and a hat I can move on to stitching their sleigh. I'm not sure how it started, but over the years I have become a collector of scissors.  No, wait.  I take that back.  I actually do know how it started.  I had one pair of small embroidery scissors that my mom bought me when I first started stitching back when I was in college.  Then I was given another pair from a friend.  Then I started having more than one project going at a time, and I would keep a pair in the project bags so I could just grab a project and go when I was taking my stitching with me.  If I was going to have multiple projects I needed more than two pairs of scissors, right?  Then last year I bought my very first pair of Gingher scissors.  I was in heaven!!  I had finally gotten a pair of the really good ones.  While my collection isn't as big as other people's, I think it's quite nice, and quite colorful.
